A Three-Step Skincare Routine for Hot, Humid Days

When the air is heavy and you are sweating by 10 a.m., a long skincare routine is usually the first thing you cut. That is fine. On humid days, the routines people actually keep tend to have fewer steps, thinner layers and a clear order. Here is a simple one in three steps: cleanser, serum and moisturiser. Sunscreen sits outside those three as a separate morning step.
Humidity changes how a product feels. A cream that seems comfortable in an air-conditioned office can feel heavy and slow to settle on a sticky July afternoon. Every extra layer adds a little to that feeling.
Fewer steps also mean less to remember when you are rushing out in the morning or getting home tired at night. This routine uses a cleanser, a serum and a moisturiser, in that order: one to wash off, one thin layer that stays on the skin, and one to finish.
Step 1: Cleanse

Start with a cleanser you like the feel of after rinsing. On hot days many people reach for a gel texture that lathers softly and rinses off quickly. Use lukewarm water rather than hot. Rinse along the hairline and jaw, where sweat and product tend to collect, then pat your face dry with a clean towel instead of rubbing.
How often you wash is personal. Plenty of people wash morning and night and add a quick rinse after exercise or a long commute. Let the way your skin feels afterwards be the guide. If it feels tight or uncomfortable after washing, try washing less often or switch to a cleanser that feels milder to you. If you wore water-resistant sunscreen or makeup, check that product's directions, because some need a separate first cleanse to come off.
Step 2: Serum

The serum is the thinnest layer in this routine, usually a watery liquid or a light gel. Follow the product's directions for how much to use, and press it in gently with flat palms.
Before the next step, check the products' directions on layering and any waiting time. On very hot days you can keep both the serum and the moisturising step light. A routine is something you adjust to the weather, not a rule you have to repeat exactly every day.
Step 3: Moisturise

Finish with a moisturiser whose texture suits the weather. In summer and during the monsoon some people prefer a gel cream, while others stay with a cream. Choose the texture you like. Follow the product's directions for the amount, and spread it out in a thin layer rather than working in a thick one.
If you spend long hours in air conditioning, or when a dry winter arrives, a richer cream at night may feel better. When the season changes, the routine can change with it.
Sunscreen, sweat and the rest of the day

In the morning, sunscreen goes on after moisturiser as a step of its own. A serum or moisturiser does not stand in for it. Follow the label for how much to use and when to reapply.
When you sweat during the day, blot with a clean tissue or a soft handkerchief instead of wiping hard, and try not to keep touching your face. Before reapplying sunscreen, blot away sweat and oil first. At night, cleanse again, then serum and moisturiser, and you are done. There is no need for sunscreen at night.
HANARI's three daily products
HANARI is preparing its first three products in this same order. Clean Start Gel Cleanser, Even Days Serum and Air-Fit Gel Cream are planned to launch together in December 2026. We designed the serum and the gel cream with thin layers and easy spreading on humid days in mind. None of them is on sale yet. As launch gets closer, we will add more on the products page, and the FAQ covers common questions about timing and ingredients.
